When Jay’s new job started sending him across North America—yes, the entire continent—we quickly realized our beloved overlanding rig “Wilmaaa” might need to share the spotlight. She’s still a champ, and always will be, but asking her to double as a mobile office, cross-country chariot, and gear hauler was… ambitious. Jay needed more room to work. We both needed more storage. And so, like tumbleweeds in the wind, we rolled into the next chapter.
Enter Tumbleweed—our 2021 Entegra Odyssey 24B and the newest member of the Midlife Rovers family.
Measuring just under 27 feet from bumper to bumper, she’s compact enough to slip into most national park campgrounds but packs a serious punch with a 7,500-pound towing capacity—perfect for hauling Dusty, our Grand Cherokee, wherever business or backroads take us.
Of course, in true Midlife Rovers fashion, we couldn’t leave well enough alone. The U-shaped dinette? Gone. We swapped it out for a standard setup using recycled materials—budget-friendly and better suited for actual living (and card games). We upgraded to lithium batteries, tacked 400 watts of solar to the roof, and ditched reliance on the generator whenever the peace and quiet of nature calls louder than a humming engine.
And that’s just the start.
We built custom bunk storage to wrangle all our gear, added some clever hanging storage, and tweaked a dozen little things that make life on the road smoother, quieter, and more us.
But no shakedown cruise would be complete without a little drama. Shortly into our maiden voyage, the Schwintek slide gave up the ghost. Tumbleweed was down, and Wilmaaa stepped back in to save the day—because she’s just built like that. The good news? Tumbleweed now sports a Vroom replacement slide system, and she’s ready for round two.
We’re excited to hit the road again, this time with all systems go (fingers crossed). Whether it’s boondocking under the stars, making business stops in the city, or just chasing sunsets for fun, Tumbleweed is ready to roll.
